Students at Mann Middle School will have a new principal in January, although he is one they are likely familiar with.
Blake Fuller, the school’s teaching specialist, will take on the role of acting principal at the school after the Christmas break. Current leader Kathy Walker is heading to the headquarters building for a new role.
Fuller, who spent the summer as director of the college’s summer program, is in his second year as an instructional coordinator at the school.
A graduate of Abilene ISD and McMurry University, Fuller taught biology for eight years at Abilene High and spent a year teaching eighth grade science at Mann before assuming the administrative role of the school.
Fuller also holds a master’s degree from Lamar University in educational administration.
Walker, meanwhile, is in her seventh year at the helm of Mann Middle.
She will become the district data specialist, a role that will put her in charge of the program to support resilient schools, the district said.
Its main goal, according to the district, will be to work directly with campus principals and education specialists to improve college math scores.
Prior to joining Mann Middle, Walker was Director of the Woodson Center for Excellence for three years. During his 25-year career with the district, Walker also served as Principal of College Heights Elementary School and held several positions at Abilene High School including Director of Studies, Teaching Specialist , English teacher and trainer.
Walker holds a BA and MA from the Christian University of Abilene.
Superintendent David Young said the search for Walker’s full-time replacement will begin in the spring semester with the goal of identifying his successor by April.
