Manchester United summer plan threatened as lenders frustrations rise

Manchester United could soon face a decision regarding one of their young talents.

Facundo Pellistri struggles to make an impact at Alaves on his second loan at the Spanish club.

The 19-year-old Uruguayan moved to Old Trafford in the summer of 2020 and temporarily joined the Spanish club on a short-term contract in January this year.

Last season, Pellistri made 12 appearances for Alaves, which is impressive during his short time at the club. Last summer United agreed to send Pellistri to Alaves for a second term, with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sanctioning the departure.

Since joining the Spanish team, Pellistri has struggled. So much so that it has recently come under criticism in the local media.

Noticias de Alava said Pellistri had “not yet made himself useful” to the Spanish team.

The La Liga side have won just one of their seven games so far and languish in the relegation zone, with Pellistri having been involved in all of Alaves’ La Liga outings.

Pellistri with United this preseason

This would nullify Solskjaer’s summer plan, with the Norwegian claiming it was in the player’s “best interests” to leave and gain more experience.

Back in the summer he said: “I can see a loan deal for him, there was a lot of interest and for his best interest a loan would be what we are looking for.”

Pellistri admitted during the preseason that he wanted to stay at Manchester.

He told MUTV: “I was loaned to Alaves, I feel great, now I’m doing my best, I’m still going forward.

“I would love to stay here, but I’m still working hard, getting better and continuing to work.

“There are a lot of young talents, all the guys want to improve, the training is really hard and I’m very happy because the young people are doing their best and are looking for a place in the first team.”

United will have a decision to be made in January on whether they want to recall Pellistri.
