Bengaluru: Edtech startup Camp K12 has raised $ 12 million in its Series A funding round co-led by Matrix Partners India and Elevation Capital.
According to the company, it will use the funds to penetrate two new geographies and deepen its reach in existing areas by introducing a group learning format. Proceeds from the current fundraiser will also be used to develop its large-scale operations and to hire leaders in the marketing, engineering and product team functions.
The eleven-year-old Camp K12 matches students aged 5-18 with teachers for interactive, live online lessons in categories such as coding and English.
Students have the option of learning one-on-one with private teachers or in small groups with friends in Camp K12’s gamified online environments.
“We have laid the groundwork for a global online school and are ready to evolve. My point is that a sustainable institution in a crowded online school market will not be built just through sales and marketing excellence, but through differentiated customer acquisition, engagement and retention. I believe in community power and network effects. We have a bold roadmap for multiplayer social experiences for our children, in and out of the classroom, ”said Anshul Bhagi, Camp K12 co-founder.
According to the company, Camp K12 activities in the United States have doubled month over month, while those in the Middle East have tripled in the past three months. Additionally, 75% of Camp K12 registrations in these geographies come from organic acquisition channels, the company said.
In these two international geographic areas, Camp K12 offers its internal 3D coding platform called “HatchXR”.
“We believe there is a huge global market for 21st century skills for children. We believe that success in this global arena will require a different playbook and product to market than we’ve seen in the past. Camp K12, with its social and multiplayer e-learning platform, stood out from day one as an innovator in this space. We have seen Camp K12 successfully use technology to have a quality, end-to-end experience, and to develop a new pedagogy for e-learning, ”said Mukul Arora, Partner, Elevation Capital.
Camp K12 has also embarked on learning English as the first category beyond coding, with a two-year learning path for each age group.
“Over the past 12 months Camp K12 has specialized in coding for the K-12 category; they have now expanded further into English with a differentiated curriculum that allows each child to publish a novel. are excited about the next stage of growth as we co-invest with Elevation Capital in this cycle ”said Vikram Vaidyanathan, Managing Director of Matrix India
